4th Dorking Rainbows. Part of the Guiding Association.

We are the 'small' Brownies! Girls can start with us at age 5, and then move up to the 4th Dorking Brownies at 7 years. Most of our Rainbows do go to St Joseph's school, but we have girls from other schools too.

The Rainbows are not so structured as the Brownies, but we still try to include our eight points, which are:

  • creative ability
  • relationships with other people
  • enjoyment of the out of doors
  • homecraft skills
  • using their mind
  • physical fitness
  • readiness to help others
  • and their character.

These points are covered in such a way as for the Rainbows to enjoy the sessions and hopefully learn through different activities.

Activities recently have included a skipathon for Red Nose Day, ink finger prints - very messy! - to try and show them every print is different, learning about the Chinese New Year, thinking how our lives would be different without certain items we take for granted!, Maypole dancing, even trying to make a peal of bells using milk bottles filled at differing levels!

The Rainbows are so called due to the promise that God gave to the earth after the floods. In different countries around the world they have other names - such as Gumnuts, in Australia!

They wear purple tabards as a 'uniform', and once they have taken their 'Promise' -
'I will do my best to love my God and to be kind and helpful', they are given their Rainbow badge and Guiding emblem.

We meet Tuesday's at 5.45 - 6.45pm, in the Church hall, so if you would like your daughter to join , ring 01372 361718 and speak to Debbie.
