St. Joseph's School

Our Mission Statement.

We cherish the uniqueness of all individuals.

We aim to create a learning climate which promotes the development of the whole child and engenders a love for learning and excellence, so that within the framework of a broad and balanced curriculum,
 all may realize their potential.

We proclaim the Gospel values in the ways in which we love ourselves and others.

Worship, prayer and our relationship with God are at the heart of school life.

We embrace our role in the wider community and seek to bear witness to our Catholic Faith in all that we do.

(revised and agreed by staff, governors, parents and children summer 2002)

A Brief Summary of School Information

St Joseph's is a Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary School in the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. It is a one-form entry school with 192 children on roll at present. It has been a Primary School for ten years having changed status from a First School under Surrey reorganisation.

Our present staff comprises a newly appointed Headteacher, an Acting Deputy Head, six class teachers, a part-time music specialist and six part-time teaching assistants. There are three infant and four junior classes.

St. Joseph's School Playground

The school building is Victorian and has been considerably remodelled in recent years. It is situated close to Dorking town centre and the surrounding countryside, so it is well placed for urban and rural studies. The final phase of development was completed in June 2004, providing overall accommodation for seven classes as well as a computer room, library, music room and hall. The outside area has one games playground, one play area equipped with Playdale apparatus, and a small garden and environmental area.

We are a small, friendly and supportive community of teachers, governors and parents all working closely together to enrich the educational facilities offered to children.  We are committed to providing the children in our care with a broad, balanced Catholic education and we seek creative ways to enrich the curriculum. We have close links with the parish of St Joseph's, and the parish priest, Fr. Dominic Rolls visits the school each week.
